LOUISVILLE, Ky, (WDRB) -- Kentucky and knocked off the top seed and top-seeded Indiana took care of business in its opener as both schools advanced in their respective conference baseball tournaments.

The Wildcats got a strong outing on the mound from Kyle Cody and Chandler Shepard plus a two-run homer from Max Kuhn as they knocked off top-seeded and 7th-ranked Florida in the second round of the SEC tournament in Hoover, Alabama. 

Kentucky (34-22) scored two runs in the first and added Kuhn's two-run shot in the third while allowing single Gator runs in the second and sixth innings. Kuhn homer was his second of the SEC Tournament and the first allowed by Florida star Freshman Logan Shore (7-3).

“Beyond the fact that was a really good win for our kids, I was proud of their effort,” UK head coach Gary Henderson, who is now 4-2 in his UK career in the SEC Tournament, said. “I was really, really pleased with Kyle Cody. He is back to doing what we thought he was doing to do at the beginning of the year. It was a shot of adrenaline for the kids. That’s the type of outing Kyle is capable of having against that type of team. It was a good win. Now we have to find a couple of more games of pitching.”

UK meets either Mississippi State or South Carolina Thursday in a game that will start thirty minutes after the 5:30 pm opener.

Indiana (39-13) received another very solid outing from Big Ten Pitcher of the Joey DeNato, who matched the program's single-season wins record with his 12th in 13 decisions.  The Senior left-hander went eight innings and allowed one run on seven hits, no walks and a season-high nine strikeouts. 

Casey Rodrigue led the offense, going 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple and every player in the IU lineup recorded a hit or an RBI.. IU meets the winner of the Minnesota-Michigan game Thursday at 10:00 pm Eastern.

U of L begins AAC Tournament play Thursday at 3:00pm when they meet Memphis in Clearwater, Florida.
