LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a Shepherdsville mom was arrested after she left her two children in a hot car while she was visiting a local salon and was "getting a wax job."

According to an arrest report, the incident took place on Wednesday, just before 3 p.m., on Frankfort Avenue, near Hillcrest Avenue, near the Clique Salon.

Police say several business owners in the area heard children screaming. They then noticed a 3-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy inside an unlocked vehicle with the windows cracked, according to the arrest report.

The business owners rescued the children from the vehicle. Police say the kids were "hot to the touch and very sweaty." According to the arrest report, the outside temperature at the time was 84 degrees, with a heat index of 87 degrees.

Both children were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital for an evaluation.

While trying to find the person responsible for the children, police say they found a pill bottle, a crushed up pill and a snorting straw. The name on the bottle was Courtney B. Kippes, according to police.

A few moments later, 22-year-old Coutney Kippes -- the children's mother -- arrived. She allegedly told police she had been "getting a wax job" at the nearby Clique Salon and Spa, and that she had been okay with leaving the kids in the car while she was there.

Police say the salon owner had asked Kippes if she had any children earlier, and she told her no.

Kippes was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
