LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- U of L didn't even need nine innings to claim a victory Thursday in its AAC Tournament opener. The Cardinals pounded out 12 hits and beat Memphis 13-3 in a game shortened to seven innings by the run-rule.
Five players had two hits each, including Conference Player of the Year Jeff Gardner. The Senior Outfielder from Whitefield Academy went 2-for-4 with his 9th home run of the season and three runs batted in.
Sophomore right-hander Kyle Funkhouser struck out eight and allowed two earned runs on six hits in six and a third innings to push his record to 12-2 on the season.
Louisville (44-13) will continue play in Pool A on Friday at 3 p.m., ET against USF. The Bulls dropped their opener Wednesday against Rutgers.
