Fort Knox Community Schools mark bittersweet last day of school

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students are marking a bittersweet last day of class in Fort Knox Community Schools today.

Children are not just leaving for summer. Seven hundred of them are leaving for good.

The U.S. military removed Fort Knox's only combat unit, pulling the kids' families away from their Hardin County Community. As a result, the superintendent says 85 teachers lost their jobs and four schools on post will be shut-down.

The Department of Defense wants to cut military staffing to pre-World War II levels.
