250 lbs. of hemp seeds arrive in Frankfort after two-week dispute

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two-hundred and fifty pounds of hemp seeds seized by the federal government have finally been released to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture in Frankfort.

A dispute between the state Ag Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) delayed the delivery for two weeks.

The Ag Department argued that the new Farm Bill allows Kentucky to legally import the seeds from overseas. The DEA insisted that the state needed to obtain a federal permit.

A federal judge helped resolve the dispute, and the seeds were delivered via UPS Friday afternoon.

The seeds are to be used for various research projects.
