Downtown Crossing road restrictions through June 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The following closures and lane restrictions are expected the rest of this week and next week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing:

Current Projects:

Louisville Streets:

Frankfort Avenue between Story Avenue and River Road is scheduled to be closed through Monday, June 9 for work in the area. Local access will be available between Story Avenue and Washington Street.

Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work. A signed detour will be in place.

Hancock Street from Main Street to Washington Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for demolition work in the area. A signed detour will be in place.

One lane of Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

One lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Two lanes of Main Street between Hancock Street and Jackson Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Two lanes of Market Street between Preston Street and Floyd Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 31 for bridge work.

Work Scheduled for Next Week:

Kentucky Side, Tuesday, May 27:

The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, May 27-Saturday, May 31 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day. A signed detour will be in place.

One lane of I-64 East from 3rd Street to I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, May 27-Saturday, May 31 for overhead bridge work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

One lane of I-71 North from I-64 to Frankfort Avenue is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, May 27-Saturday, May 31 to prepare for demolition work. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

One lane of I-71 South from Beargrass Creek to I-64 is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, May 27-Saturday, May 31 for pile driving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled for Wednesday, May 28:

One lane of I-65 South from the Kennedy Bridge to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, May 28 for work in the area. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Work scheduled for Thursday, May 29:

The ramp from I-71 South to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Thursday, May 29 for paving. It’s expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. A signed detour will be in place.

Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, May 29 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through the spring of 2016.

I-65 North from Muhammad Ali Boulevard to Witherspoon Street has been reduced from three through lanes of traffic to two, with the right lane a mandatory exit to Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The lane reduction is expected to continue into 2015.

The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15, 2013 and is expected to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.

US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It’s expected to remain closed into July 2014.

Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until early July, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.

9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for storm sewer work. It’s expected to reopen in late May.

The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise.
