LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Only 96 days until the start of the 2014 college football season – Abilene Christian at Georgia State on Aug. 27 (good seats still available at StubHub).

Two days later Western Kentucky will welcome Bowling Green to, well, Bowling Green to begin the Jeff Brohm Era. Kentucky (Tennessee-Martin) and Indiana (Indiana State) begin play at home on Saturday Aug. 30.

Then the Bobby Petrino Era (Part II) opens in prime time with ESPN televising the Cards’ introduction to Atlantic Coast Conference Football on Labor Day – Sept. 1 in Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium at 8 p.m.

You know what that means – the college football preseason magazines have started to arrive. I purchased Lindy’s Yearbook on Thursday. Here are several highlights:

Louisville

*The Cards are ranked 31st in the nation and fourth the in ACC behind Florida State, Clemson and Miami.

*DeVante Parker is ranked the nation’s 14th best receiver.

*Jake Smith is ranked the nation’s 6th best offensive guard.

*Lorenzo Mauldin is ranked the nation’s 8th best linebacker.

Indiana

*The Hoosiers are ranked 69th in the nation, 11th in the Big Ten, behind everybody but Northwestern, Rutgers and Purdue, but only one spot behind Illinois and 10 behind Maryland.

*Tevin Coleman is ranked the 16th best back in nation

Kentucky

*The Wildcats are ranked 81st in the nation, 14th in the SEC, last in the league and 14 places behind Arkansas.

*Defensive lineman Alvin Dupree named first team all-SEC; offensive lineman Darrian Miller, second team all-SEC; defensive lineman ZaDarius Smith named third team all-SEC.

*Freshman class ranked 22nd in the nation.

Western Kentucky

*The Hilltoppers are ranked 97th in the nation, 5th in Conference USA, behind Marshall, UT-SA, North Texas and Middle Tennessee.

*Defensive back Cam Thomas is a first-team all-CUSA selection.
