Flags 4 Vets places 15,000 flags on Great Lawn to remember fallen soldiers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It serves as a visual reminder of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

More than 15,000 American flags were placed on the Great Lawn Saturday morning. Flags 4 Vets coordinates the event each Memorial Day.

Kaylee Palmer, whose dad is a veteran, says these kinds of events are important. "Because the people are doing this for their country and I think they should get some recognition for fighting for our country," Palmer said.

Kaylee and her father turned out to place flags on graves and remember fallen soldiers.

"Well it's very encouraging that people come here and put the flags out," Kaylee's father David said, "the reason I put mine out is so that we can remember the fallen soldiers the ones that went over and gave the ultimate sacrifice."

After Memorial Day, the flags will be collected and distributed across the nation to be placed on veterans' graves.

6,000 of the flags will be held in Louisville to be placed on graves in Kentucky.
