IU baseball the No. 4 overall seed for NCAA Tournament

Posted: Updated:
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana Hoosiers are the No. 4 overall seed in the 2014 NCAA Baseball Championship as announced on Monday by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. IU will welcome Indiana State, Stanford and Youngstown State to Bart Kaufman Field for the NCAA Regional on May 30-June 2.

The Hoosiers are the first Big Ten program to ever earn a national seed.

Indiana is the top seed among the four programs that will play in Bloomington. The double-elimination competition will begin on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET when second-seeded Indiana State takes on third-seeded Stanford. The Hoosiers will battle fourth-seeded Youngstown State on Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Youngstown State (16-36) won the Horizon League Tournament championship over the weekend to punch their ticket into the NCAA field as they defeated top-seeded Wright State in the final game.

Indiana State (35-16) will make the short trip over from Terre Haute for the second time this season. The Hoosiers and Sycamores met twice during the regular season and split those decisions as the home team won in each contest. ISU hosted and was the second seed in last week's Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and finished just one game out of first place in the regular season.

Stanford (30-23) finished fifth in the final regular season standings in the Pac-12 Conference. The Cardinal will make its first visit to Bloomington this weekend. Stanford is one of five Pac-12 schools in the tournament field.

The ESPN family of networks will broadcast each game of the regional. Both of Friday's contests will air on ESPN3.

Also, each Indiana game of the NCAA Tournament can be heard on the IU Radio Network with Greg Murray and Jeremy Gray calling the action.
