LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Police arrested two men who they say conspired with others to commit insurance fraud.
Stacy Todd and a second individual were taken into custody Friday night at the 12-mile marker of I-264 west, for allegedly conspiring with other people to rent a U-Haul truck, with the intention of committing insurance fraud, according to police records.
Police say Todd and his accomplice were members of a large staged crash ring. Police records indicate that members of the ring rented a U-Haul truck in March 2012. Additionally, police say the group purchased insurance for the truck and intentionally crashed the truck into another car to obtain money and benefits through insurance fraud.
Insurance claims were submitted to Repwest Insurance for an amount worth over $70,000, according to police records. Claims were also made to Allstate Insurance.
Police say Todd's co-defendant gave a recorded confession where he stated that the crash was staged on purpose.
Todd is charged with insurance fraud.
