LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a robbery suspect offered a police officer $1,200 as a bribe.

The alleged incident took place Wednesday just after 8:30 p.m.

Police say they were dispatched to the scene of a robbery near S. Preston Street and E. Muhammad Ali Boulevard. According to an arrest report, two people said a man began following them, reached behind his back, indicating a weapon, and told them, "If you don't give up the phone, I'll shoot both of you!"

One of the victims gave the man the phone, and the suspect took off northbound on S. Preston Street.

Police say shortly thereafter, they located 39-year-old Deyon Lorquette Hayden nearby. According to the arrest report, Hayden matched the description of the suspect given by the victims. He also allegedly had the stolen cell phone in his possession.

Both victims identified Hayden as the man who robbed them, according to police.

While in custody, Hayden allegedly offered one or more officers $1,200 to let him go.

He was arrested and charged with first degree robbery and bribery of a public servant.
