LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman's green efforts at a local school aren't going unnoticed.
Darleen Horton is this year's recipient of the Joan Riehm Environmental Leadership Award. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens applauded Horton's innovative efforts at Cane Run Elementary School and beyond.
Horton leads environmental clubs, has improved recycling and waste, and reduced the school's carbon footprint by over 27 percent.
The school has a biking program for students, who are even growing vegetables on campus.
The award honors Riehm, a former Louisville deputy mayor and environmental advocate.
