Police: Violent robbery suspect on the loose in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are looking for a violent robbery suspect who shot one of his victims in the chest.

But the suspect left two pieces of crucial evidence at the scene after one of his victims actually fought back.

"The victim is robbed of his cell phone and some money and his wallet," said Det. Justin Aubrey, with LMPD's 6th Division. "And there were some purchases on his credit card within about 30-minutes of the incident."

Police say the suspect has robbed at least three people at gunpoint this month, that includes the man who fought back.

Aubrey said, "In that incident, the victim actually engages in a struggle with the suspect over the gun, which is as a result of that is when he gets shot one time."

The confrontation happened at an apartment complex on Indian Trail, not far from Preston Highway. The suspect got away after shooting the victim in the chest, but he left something behind.

"And obviously by him doing that, you know, he got free that night, but you know, hopefully he left us some clues that will help us in the investigations to try to locate who he is," said Det. Aubrey.

During the struggle, the suspect dropped his gun and a fisherman-style hat he was wearing.

Aubrey said, "We were actually able to get the serial number from that firearm and it was actually stolen from burglary in the 7th Division, in the Fern Creek area."

Right now, police don't know who the suspect is, but they have learned some things about him. "Not only is this person engaging in street robberies, that include someone getting shot, there's also property that he is using with a firearm that is stolen from a burglary, so I'd say it is definitely someone that is very dangerous," said Det. Aubrey.

All of the robberies have happened late at night along Indian Trail, and here's what else police know about the suspect from surveillance video.

"From the video that we have obtained, he is probably in his 20s, he appears to be left-handed. Where he signs the receipt for the credit card purchase, he does that with his left hand," said Det. Aubrey.

Police say the suspect is a white male and he was with a black female. He also may have a black eye and bite marks on his back, from the struggle.
