NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) -- New Albany police chief Todd Bailey says the department is now investigating the death of a 70-year-old man as a homicide.

The man was found dead in a home on Vincennes Street in New Albany, Ind. Friday morning. Police now say he died as a result of blunt force trauma. Officials have identified the man as Lonnie Page, born June 18th, 1943.

Edgar Bryant told WDRB he knew the victim. "I've heard he was beaten to death," Bryant said. "That's all I've heard, that he was beaten to death and found in a pool of blood."

Bryant described Page as "nice guy, very nice guy" he said, "and I don't know why, in any shape or form, whatever, why he would be senselessly murdered.

According to a press release officers were dispatched to Vincennes Street, near E. Market Street, after the body of 70-year-old man had been discovered around 7:00 a.m.

Neighbors say Page was very quiet and kept to himself, but an internet search revealed Page has a bit of a criminal history, mainly for sexual abuse.
