LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- High school students are making the pledge to graduate from college. Today was the "I'm going to college 55K Signing Day"

The movement encourages local students to commit to earning their college degrees.

Mayor Greg Fischer, and Superintendent Donna Hargens, both participated in the event, and one by one, students signed a pledge to graduate.

James Quinn says he will attend Spalding University, "It makes you feel more like you're a part of something than just being by yourself, so I think that's a good thing."

Syracuse University-bound LaNia Roberts says she shares a similar feeling. "I'm surrounded by people who have the same goal as me," Roberts says "to go to college and finish and to become successful in life so that's what I'm really excited about. Meeting all these new people."

Mayor Fischer also declared today "College Spirit Day". Area colleges and universities also took part in the event.
