VERSAILLES, Ky. (WDRB) --It's a place usually built for a king or queen that attracts people from around the globe, but you won't find it in Europe. This castle sits in the middle of horse country in Versailles, Kentucky.
Castle Post, as it's now called, was built in the late 1960s by a man for his wife after their trip to Europe. When they were there they saw a number of beautiful castles. The relationship went south, and the two divorced.
"So it was kind of like the Castle of broken love for a while," local, Dale Stubbelfield explained.
That is u until a local man named Tom Post bought it from the heirs
"He came in and rebuilt it. Then, they had the fire," General Manager Charles Martin said.
The fire in the mid 2000s was absolutely devastating for Post. Everything on his property was gone besides the outer walls and the four turrets.
"He came back and rebuilt it again," said Martin.
This time for commercial use. People can rent rooms, and have gourmet dinners inside the castle, at least for now. It's currently on the market for 30 million dollars.
There are people who have that kind of cash, and will consider dropping it on this place, just like the last time it was on the market in 2010.
"We had some interest, but nobody came up to the price of 30 million dollars," Martin explained.
If someone does buy it this time around, the days of it being open to the public could be over. So, if you want to feel royal, now might be the best time to visit Kentucky's Castle.
