Kentucky legislature approves pilot program to provide nursing homes for inmates

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --The State of Kentucky is looking into a new way to care for aging inmates, who are not physically or mentally strong.

The state legislature has approved a pilot program that requires Kentucky to parole some eligible inmates into private nursing homes.

Medicaid would pay for most of their medical bills. Sex offenders and death row inmates would be excluded.

A Georgia doctor plans to open a nursing facility in his state that would cater to paroled inmates.

Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo says he would like to see that same doctor open a similar facility at the former Otter Creek Correctional facility.
