"Produce for Kids" uses tasty choices to promote healthy eating

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Getting children to eat their veggies can be challenging. Meijer Healthy Living Advisor Janine Faber explains how their "Produce for Kids" campaign is not only encouraging healthy foods but also raising money for the Children's Miracle Network.

·This spring, Meijer will once again host the Get Healthy, Give Hope Produce for Kids campaign in all stores May 25 - June 21.

·During campaign time, 100% of funds raised will benefit local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals®.

·Over the past eleven years, Meijer has helped raise more than $946,000 to support local children's charities during the Produce for Kids campaigns.

·Produce for Kids is dedicated to educating families on the benefits of healthy eating with fresh produce, providing simple meal solutions and raising money for children's non-profit organizations.

·In-store demos will take place in all 207 Meijer stores on Saturday, June 7.

Easy Summer Salad 
Serves 2 lunch-size portions
Prep Time: 10 minutes

4 cups DOLE® Spring Mix salad blend
8 oz. Markets of Meijer® Rotisserie Chicken, skin removed, shredded (or try new Nature Raised Farms® chicken*)
8 large Well-Pict® strawberries, sliced
1 cup red seedless grapes, halved
4 Tbsp. Marzetti® Light Raspberry Cabernet Vinaigrette dressing

1. Mix salad, chicken, strawberries, grapes and dressing in large bowl. Divide into
 two servings.

Fruit & Cream Delights 
Serves 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes

1 California peach, pitted, chopped 
1 California nectarine, pitted, chopped 
1 California plum, pitted, chopped
1 cup Grower Direct® California cherries, pitted, chopped
1 Tbsp. honey
4 slices premade angel food cake
4 tsp. whipped cream

1. Combine peach, nectarine, plum, cherries and honey in medium bowl. Set aside
 5 minutes.
 2. Top cake with fruit mixture and whipped cream.

Suggested sides for a complete meal:
A glass of 1% milk
