President Obama's plans to combat climate change to have impact on Ky.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- President Obama is pledging to combat climate change -- and his plans to go about doing so are making waves across the country, even here in Kentucky.

"As President, and as a parent, I refuse to condemn our children to a planet that's beyond fixing," President Obama recently told a crowd.

President Obama is going around Congress to force a steep 30-percent cut in carbon emissions -- so-called greenhouse gases from coal-fired power -- plants by 2030.

The new rules give states and local governments flexibility on developing plans to meet those goals.

But Kentucky lawmakers are quick to fire back, saying the President and the EPA are out of touch with American families, arguing the requirement will kill hundreds of thousands of jobs and cost the economy billions.

WDRB's Lawrence Smith is speaking with U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and, during today's 4:00 newscast, will reveal not only McConnell's thoughts on the issue, but how the senator plans to fight it.
