Former sub teacher pleads not guilty to inappropriate relationship with teen student

Louisville, Ky (WDRB) -- 33-year-old Suzanne Bickers was fired from the Bullitt County Public Schools as a substitute teacher, after she was accused of sexual contact with a 17-year-old male student at Bullitt Central High School.

At her arraignment, she plead not guilty to one count of sodomy and two counts of unlawful transaction with a minor. A Bullitt County Grand Jury indicted her last month.

Clark Baird, Bickers' Attorney said, "She's upset, obviously so."
In court, we've learned Bickers is married, but her attorney says her husband lives out of state. The mom of two has a five and six year old.

Bullitt County Public Schools says Bickers was hired as a sub in the summer of 2013, but as soon as the district became aware of the allegations, she was removed from the classroom and later fired.

Baird said, "At this point, it's our position that Ms. Bickers is not guilty and until we have the evidence from the Commonwealth, we really can't make any other statement about the case."

Prosecutors wanted her bond set at 10-thousand dollars full cash. But the judge instead ruled that she'll have a 10-thousand dollar surety bond, which means she only has to pay if she fails to make her court appearances. She left the courthouse without commenting and tried to cover her face with her hair and a piece of paper.

Baird said, "Obviously anyone who has been indicted in a crime would be upset and I believe she's upset right now."
The judge has ordered that Bickers have no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18, but can have contact with her two children. She can only have contact with Bullitt County Public Schools in relation to her children.
Bickers is expected back in court in August.
