Canton, Mass. man claims puppy drove car into pond

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man's car ended up in a pond, quickly sinking, but while that man freely admits that he was in the car at the time, he says he didn't put it there.

He says it was Rosie, his 5-month-old German Shepard puppy.

John Costello says he was moving his daughter's car a few feet at a park in Canton, Massachusetts over the weekend when Rosie, who was on her retractable leash, jumped into the moving car.

"The gear shift into drive, and when the car jerked, she landed on the gas pedal and we all got tangled up," Costello said.

Rosie jumped into the back seat as Costello got out of the car. The water pushed the door closed, trapping the dog inside as the car continued to sink. Costello went back in, swimming through a window and grabbing the dog by the neck to save him.

But the car was a total loss.
