LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a child was struck by a truck Tuesday evening. 


Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley says she was in critical condition, but alert when she was taken to the hospital.


Third Division officers and the LMPD Traffic Unit were called to Sky Blue Avenue shortly after 6:00 p.m.  


Police say the 4-year-old girl had been struck by a Chevy pickup truck. According to witnesses, the child darted out into the path of the truck.


The man driving the truck was only one in the vehicle and he police say he remained on scene.  


Police say there does not appear to be any criminal activity on the part of the truck driver, but he was cited for no insurance and a suspended license.


There were no other injuries or vehicles involved.
