LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a special morning for a fifth grader graduating from Heartland Elementary School.
Gracie's dad, Major Julian Reyes, hasn't seen his kids in almost a year. He's been serving overseas in Afghanistan and Korea. Gracie didn't know it, but her mom had been working with her school to plan an on-stage surprise for the fifth grader this morning.
Her dad wasn't supposed to be home until Friday, but was released from his duties a little early.
"I didn't think it was real," Gracie said.
"It was kind of a surprise," said Major Reyes. "I wasn't really expecting it. My wife just told me to come to the high school, and we're going to surprise Gracie."
Gracie says she's able to FaceTime with her dad while he's overseas, but is happy to have him back home.
