Canadian couple uninjured after lightning strikes pickup truck

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Canadian couple is lucky to be alive after a bolt of lightning struck their pickup truck.

It happened Saturday. That's when Al and Betty Perry were driving on a rural highway outside Alberta during a thunderstorm. Surveillance cameras recorded the strike, showing the exact moment the lightning hit the truck, which was immediately engulfed in flames.

"It sounded like a sonic boom, that's how loud it was," said Al Perry in an interview on Canada's CTV.

All six airbags deployed, the metal body was rippled by the heat, and smoke filled the entire cabin. A passing Royal Canadian Mounted Patrol officer saw it all happen and helped the couple escape the truck.

The Perrys did not suffer any injuries but were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
