UPDATE: LMPD investigating shooting on I-265 westbound

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police responded to a possible shooting on the Gene Snyder Freeway today just after 5 p.m. near Smyrna Parkway. According to a press release, a man was shot while driving his car on I-265 westbound.

The man told police he did not see anyone when he heard a pop and then realized he had been shot. Police say the bullet, from a large caliber handgun, entered the vehicle through the passenger door and struck the driver.

LMPD describes the victim as a white male in his 40's. They say the man was transported to University Hospital with non life threatening injuries to his arm and upper body. Police also say two children were in the car, but neither was injured. 

The man was treated at the hospital and released. Authorities say they searched the area but did not locate any witnesses or further evidence. 

According to MetroSafe the right lane of the road were shut down due to the investigation, but has been re-opened.
