Louisville Fire & Rescue is looking for new recruits

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Fire & Rescue is looking for new recruits. It's a tough job, but Captain Salvador Melendez explains the rewards of being a firefighter.

The Application Submission period for the next Firefighter Recruit Class runs through Tuesday, July, 1, 2014.  Applicants much be 18, a high school graduate, drug free and physically fit.  

The entire process, from initial application to the beginning of Firefighter Recruit Training Academy may take between 8-12 months. The Recruit Training Academy is a 27 week long training period where recruits are trained to become full-fledged Firefighters, Hazardous Material Specialists and Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technicians to name a few of their specialties. During Recruit training, candidates work an 8:00 am-4:00 pm, 40 Hour. The starting salary is $42,810.56.
