There are always people who say, "We better not do that. It might be risky." This holds true about many things around here, by the way. We'll always have the people who just can't say "Yes." That's why it took so long to simply paint the bridges, not to mention to build the new ones. There are still detractors of the KFC YUM! Center, but an Economic Impact Analysis for the arena came out last week and those who said “yes” look very smart today.
The Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau commissioned the study to see what impact the arena was having on the community. So far, the four-year cumulative total impact on Louisville because of the arena is $581 million. Think about the 8,400 full and part time jobs that money has helped create. Restaurants are opening all around the arena and several new hotels are being built anticipating more conventions.
The KFC YUM! Center is responsible for bringing us the top concerts touring the U.S. today. Although Paul McCartney just postponed his June concert until October, he's just one of many top performers – like Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga – who have visited Louisville in the last few years. And that’s all due to the YUM! Center. Touring artists love it!
That's where I stand, but what do you think of the arena? Call and tell us.
