LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Jeffersonville teen claims his mom asked him to keep quiet after telling her he was molested by her boyfriend.

James D. Watkins, 42, had his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon. He faces four felony charges of child molestation and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor.

A probable cause affidavit alleges that over the course of two years, Watkins had sexual relations with his then-girlfriend's son.

According to court records, the 13-year-old told his mother about the abuse which prompted her to confront Watkins. When Watkins denied the claims, the mother asked her son to keep quiet.

"It's not unusual in child molestation cases that these matters go on for quite a long period of time," said Clark County Deputy Prosecutor Linda Lamping.

In police interviews the teen told authorities the sexual encounters took place in the home and in his mother's car on multiple occasions.

Court documents claim Watkins admitted to molesting the teen on multiple occasions. He allegedly told police "the devil snuck into his body when that happened," and he "isn't sorry just because he got caught."

Police say Watkins also admitted to being drunk during at least one of the encounters, and says he may have blacked out.

Police say when they interviewed Watkins he was largely inconsistent in his statements, and often changed his recollection of events.

Records claim the defendant's father, Clarence Watkins, also molested the teen. Watkins was not booked in the Clark County jail as of Tuesday afternoon, and the prosecutors office would not comment on whether they planned to press charges.

Watkins lawyer says they are looking forward to reviewing all the evidence and fully investigating the matter.

Watkins is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
