Mayor's office says Louisville becoming a "green city"

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville is making progress in becoming a green city.

That's the word from the mayor's office, which released an update Thursday on green efforts through the Sustain Louisville plan. Among the successes named was the city's decision to launch an energy savings performance contract with nearly $27 million in energy-efficient upgrades and repairs to city-owned buildings, grants for new or expanded community gardens in the Portland and Shawnee neighborhoods, and funds going to a comprehensive tree canopy assessment, which will be complete later this year.

Key initiatives planned for the coming year include a pilot "EcoDistrict" and sustainable neighborhood program.
