LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Another big change the zoo made several weeks ago seems to be working. Beer sales began in May and officials say sales have totaled just under $5,000.

Zoo director John Walczak says the beer sales help the organization's bottom line.

"We're very fortunate that we're a Metro agency, but we fund about 80% of our way through self-earned revenue," Walczak says, "and there's always the interest to try and grow revenue and this sale is one of the opportunities to help us improve on that bottom line on revenue."

Walczak also notes the staff has been well-trained in beer sales and he has not seen any negative effects.
