LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Police say they have arrested a man after he refused to pull over for a traffic stop late Monday night.

According to a news release from Kentucky State Police, it happened about 10:30 p.m. Monday. That's when state police were helping the Fulton County Sheriff's Department find a silver 2006 Nissan Altima. Trooper Johnathan Coppersmith observed a silver 2006 Nissan Altima traveling south on Martin Luther King Drive. Police say Trooper Coppersmith saw the driver commit multiple traffic violations and attempted to stop the vehicle.

That's when police say the vehicle's driver vehicle sped away before coming to a stop on Vanlea Drive. The suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Earl J. Flanigan, then got out of the vehicle and ran away on foot.

Trooper Coppersmith pursued Flanigan approximately 200 yards before the Flanigan lost his footing. Trooper Coppersmith had to use his taser on Flanigan to gain control before he could be arrested.

The vehicle Flanigan was driving was not the same vehicle police were originally looking for.

Flanigan was charged with fleeing and evading police in a motor vehicle, fleeing and evading police on foot, operating on a suspended/revoked operator's license, no registration receipt, and no registration plate.
