LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Former University of Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware has been cleared to play by the NCAA.
Thursday morning, Ware got the OK to play for Georgia State, Coach Ron Hunter tells ESPN.
Ware suffered a gruesome broken leg against Duke in the Cards' run to the NCAA Men's National Championship in 2013.
He returned for action for the 2013-2014 season, but only appeared in nine games before additional injuries forced him to apply for a medical redshirt.
Following the Cards loss in the NCAA tournament, Ware decided to transfer to Georgia State, which is closer to his family.
Leaving Louisville has been a tough task for Ware. In an interview with WDRB's Rick Bozich back in April, Ware expressed his feelings on leaving the city. "It's tough coming to things like this," Ware said. "This is where it started for me – before I even decided to come here. But there's a lot going on at home and I kind of feel like my family needs me to be back there."
Ware, who has two years of eligibility remaining, will be immediately eligible to play for Georgia state for the 2014-2015 season.
