LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Last June, Rob and Dana Sample were involved in a motorcycle accident on the Greenbelt Highway. A truck pulled out in front of them, causing  their bike to smash into the side of another vehicle.

Tonight, Rob Sample stood tearfully before the Louisville Metro Council to thank EMS and Pleasure Ridge Park Firefighters for saving the lives of both him and his wife.

"I can't thank these gentlemen over here enough," he said. "My injuries were very minor, but hers were worse."

Neither of them wore helmets and both sustained head injuries. The Samples say that without the help of EMS and firefighters, they may not have survived.

"I think everybody takes for granted what they can do every day," Dana Sample said. "And I am proof it can be gone from you in a blink of the eye."
