I-65 lane changes begin this weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Changes will start taking place on I-65 from Witherspoon to Muhammad Ali Boulevard this weekend.

The southbound lanes will move to the outside on new alignments. It's so that crews can begin working on the inside lanes.

Ohio River Bridges Project officials say drivers traveling from I-64 West and I-71 South will notice the first change when that shift occurs Saturday night.

Other drivers using I-65 South will see the lanes shift Sunday night.

Officials say the lane changes should not increase commute times, but with a switch on the northbound side last month, both sides of I-65 have gone from three to two lanes.

The lane changes will remain in place through 2015.

The 2nd Street Bridge is scheduled to close to traffic on July 8. The bridge will be closed for six weeks as exit ramps are constructed.

Indiana drivers should also expect major delays and lane closures on both sides of I-65 from Scottsburg to Seymour.

Crews will be working to repair and repave the 20 mile stretch of road through Friday.
