LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Police have arrested 67-year-old Donald Hayes after what they are calling a fatal road rage incident in the Camp Taylor area.
Hayes is charged with murder. Customers of Donald Hayes say he runs a hot dog stand in downtown Louisville.
A little after 11:30 on Saturday morning, LMPD officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Poplar Level Road and Taylor Avenue.
Caution tape blocked off the area where authorities say a man was killed.
"It appears that there was some type of road rage involved in the area," said LMPD public information officer Carey Klain.
Police say it appears an altercation began in the nearby Chase parking lot, where you could see glass on the ground. They say it ended with the victim driving a silver car into a truck, behind C.T. Haircutters.
The man was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries. Police say he was 57 years old.
This all happened just seconds from Camp Taylor Memorial Park, where people said they had reason to be concerned.
"Cause there's kids playing around. There's a park right over there and then a man got shot, so it's kinda creepy," said Breanna Holt, a Louisville resident.
"Well, pretty appalling actually. You know what I'm saying? Because in a family atmosphere, you go there not thinking. You're just all in a day of family time, enjoying one another's company.. not to think that just seconds away from you something of this magnitude is taking place," said Shonda Craig.
Shonda Craig, who spent the day at the nearby park, says it's disturbing to think about something happening so close to where kids play, and where families congregate on the weekend.
"I just wish we could find a way to end some of the senseless crime and violence in our city throughout," said Craig.
