LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The family of the victim in a road rage shooting speaks out.

Danny Wilson's family says he was a cancer survivor and checked on his mother every day.

That's where he was headed right before he was shot and killed in the Chase Bank parking lot on Poplar Level Road Saturday afternoon.

Police say Wilson was found with a bat between his legs.

Wilson's family said the 57-year old carried a night stick in his car for protection after being mugged two weeks earlier.

Wilson's daughter Christy said, "I got a news alert on my phone and I don't know, I just felt sick to my stomach because it was right behind her house."

Donald Hayes has been charged with murder, but was released less than 24 hours later on a $10,000 bond.

Hayes is scheduled to be in court Wednesday morning.
