LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- This week Jefferson County cracks down on sex offenders to see if they're really following the law.
U.S. Marshals briefed LMPD officers, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies and law enforcement officials from other local agencies Monday morning on "Operation Derby City Overwatch II."
They will search out and verify about 1,200 names on the sex offender registry in Jefferson County.
"They'll have a folder with the offender's name and address and they'll go to that location, try to verify whether they're in there. I mean, obviously, if they answer the door and we can check them off as being compliant," said U.S. Marshal Jim Clark.
Clark says they usually find about 90 percent of the sex offenders compliant. Those who are not could face more jail time. Clark hopes the operation will wrap up on Thursday.
