JCPS launches mobile student registration to run through mid-August

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Summer break just started, but JCPS is already registering students for next year.

No internet? No transportation? No problem. JCPS's app mobile brings back-to-school registration to your neighborhood.

Parent Christal Mozee said “I want to know how to do a hardship and see if I can get my kids closer to the area."

Christal Mozee has transportation, but a lot of questions about get her children closer to home.

“They're all over the place and if they have events it's hard to get out there because it's so far away," Mozee said.

She’s one of several parents getting the help they need inside JCPS's app mobile.

“The crew from student assignment took the app mobile out in the community, in those areas where we typically have low turnout for registration for students, and took the process to where they were,” JCPS spokesperson Ben Jackey said.

The first stop is at Stephen Foster Traditional Academy in West Louisville.

“We know that families identify with the school in their community” Jackey said, “and that's where most of them are going to school and so we've tried to do school locations this year."

Jackey says last year, the app mobile served hundreds of families and was a big success. “It allowed us to connect with families who had questions about other things, whether it be student transfers, changes of address, questions about different programs, early childhood...those type of things."

On board, you'll find everything you need to get your child ready and registered for the upcoming school year.

“There are six laptop computers in addition to student assignment personnel who are there to help parents go through every click and make sure that they put the right information in to make sure that they put the right information in to get their students registered for the school year," Jackey explained.

We caught up with Christal Mozee after her visit to the app mobile and she said it was a mission accomplished.

“I got everything done,” Mozee said, “they going to send me a letter in the mail in a week."

The app mobile will be on the road through mid-August.
