JCPS approves new school planned for Norton Commons

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new school will soon be coming to a growing area of Jefferson County.

The JCPS Board voted tonight in favor of building a new elementary school at Norton Commons.

The developer donated the land several years ago, and the school district has until next year to use the property.

“People in the nearby area would be served by it.” JCPS board member Debbie Wesslund said, “people further away from that cluster of schools would be served by it. It would be an option for parents to apply to.”

The price tag for construction is around $15 million.

JCPS will pay for the school, which would serve 650 students, with a bond issue.

It would be attached to and share resources with a YMCA.
