LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have charged two men with cruelty to animals after officers say they found several pit bulls in a home, with obvious signs that they had been fighting.

The alleged discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon, at a home near the corner of 25th Street and Rowan Street. Police say they were in the area investigating reports of gunshots, when they were flagged down by neighbors who showed them the home where they said the gunshots were coming from.

That home was the residence of 27-year-old Robert W. Dickerson, according to police.

When officers arrived at the home, they allegedly saw another man, 31-year-old Edward J. Bryant III, pick something up off the ground and go inside the house. Police then went inside the house, after they say they received "negative resistance" from the residents.

Once inside the home, officers allegedly found several pit bulls that appeared as though they had been dog fighting. Police say one of the pit bulls was bleeding from the neck, and police allegedly found an empty room and a hallway with blood on the floor.

Police say both Dickerson and Bryant had been seen inside the home and were "fully aware" of the conditions of the animals. Metro Animal Services arrived at the home and took the animals.

Dickerson and Bryant were both arrested by Louisville Metro Police and charged with first degree cruelty to animals.
