LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The latest project by Star Wars director George Lucas isn't a blockbuster motion picture. It's a museum.

George Lucas is planning to build a new museum in Chicago. The Windy City beat San Francisco and New York, which were also eyeing the museum.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will serve as a place to experience narrative art and the evolution of the visual image. It will host more than 500,000 pieces of art and movie memorabilia from Lucas' personal archives.

"This is a milestone for the city, but it's just one milestone on a journey as we build this new museum that is a part of the history, part of the cultural, educational legacy of the city that actually makes Chicago a unique place," said Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The earliest the museum would open is 2018.
