Independence Day travel expected to increase

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - More people will be hitting the road for the long July 4th holiday weekend, and millions of people will be driving.

Forty-one million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles during Independence Day weekend.

The figure is up two percent from last year, and it could be because of the calendar.

Independence Day falls on a Friday this year, and it's an easy three day weekend for a lot of people.

One factor different this year is the cost of gas.

Gas is averaging $3.68 per gallon this year, which is up nearly 13 cents the same time last year.

Those prices are reportedly much higher in the Louisville area.
