LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is facing charges of child abuse after police say he punched a 4-year-old boy in the side of the head.

According to an arrest warrant, it happened in late March, but police were not notified until the victim was being treated for burns at Kosair Children's Hospital. That's where staff members noticed bruising on the child's neck, chin and head.

According to court documents, those bruises were caused by 24-year-old Nathan Diesman when he allegedly grabbed the child around the chin and neck and also punched the child in the side of the head.

Child Protective Services and LMPD's Crimes Against Children Unit were notified of the child's injuries. Diesman -- identified in court documents as the boyfriend of the child's mother -- was arrested June 26.

Diesman is charged with fourth degree assault (child abuse) and wanton endangerment. He was being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $10,000 cash bond.
