Louisville parking rates to increase, Saturday fees to be enforced

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Beginning July 1, Louisville parking rates at meters and some garages will increase. Slightly.

PARC director Tiffany Smith says many of these garages have not seen a rate increase since 2007.

"As downtown Louisville continues to grow, businesses need more parking spaces that turn over quickly and are available to as many users as possible," Smith said.

According to a press release, the rates will increase as follows:

- Parking meters will increase by $0.25 (from $1.25 to $1.50)

- Early Bird rates at Market Street Garage by $1.00 (from $5.00 to $6.00)

- Paid In Advance at 1st and Main Garage by $1.00 (from $5.00 to $6.00)

- Monthly rates at all PARC garages by $5.00, excluding the Clay Commons GaragePARC says they will also begin enforcing Saturday rates, but the enforcement will begin gradually.

Saturday fees are already law, but officials have not been enforcing them. Starting July 9, drivers will see bright green notices on their cars notifying them of the change. In August, warnings will be issued and by September, PARC will be issuing tickets for violations.
