Former Central Hardin High School teacher faces new charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Hardin County teacher arrested for sexual abuse, then fired while still in jail, faces new charges after more students come forward.

Edwin Bonet was a teacher at Central Hardin High School for 13 years until Dec. 2013, when a female student came forward and claimed her Spanish teacher kissed her on the mouth and touched her in a sexual way.

"Since the initial charge, we've had a couple more victims that have came forward and stated that they were victims involving Mr. Bonet," said Timothy Cleary of the Elizabethtown Police Department.

WDRB uncovered court records that claim Bonet engaged in sexual misconduct dating back to his first years on the job, although none of the incidents were ever reported.

The first count of the new indictment says that in 2001, Bonet induced illegal sexual activity from a minor under the age of 16.

WDRB tracked down school officials on vacation, many of whom were shocked by the new developments.

"We did not know any of those dating back to 2001. If we had, we would've terminated Mr. Bonet-Ruiz back in 2001, because obviously, that is not tolerated at all in our district," said John Wright, Director of Communication for Hardin County Schools.

Police say there are other victims from 2012 and 2013, raising the number of victims to four, and the investigation is ongoing.

The indictment claims Bonet set up fake Facebook accounts to keep in contact with some of the victims. He then terminated the accounts when he learned a case was mounting.

"All the victims came forward from the school," Cleary said.

Hardin County schools fired Bonet after the December incident.

Bonet bonded out of jail following his December arrest and is free, but he is due back in court on the new charges next week.

WDRB was hung up on when we tried to call Bonet's house, and his attorney didn't respond, either.

"I guess the key to the story is if someone out there is a student that feels they have been harassed in any way, shape, or form, they need to let an adult know," Wright said.
Edwin Bonet, who also goes by Edwin Bonet-Ruiz, Cory and KK Stih, served as the hispanic pastor at Abundant Life Church in Radcliff.

According to the church's website he is still on staff.
