Riverview Park Independence Festival celebrates July 4 early

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -  It's a chance to see some early July 4 fireworks along the Ohio River.

Metro Council is hosting the 3rd annual Riverview Park Independence Festival Saturday at the Greenwood Boat Docks.

This year's festival will include an even bigger fireworks show, lit from a barge on the river.

Organizers say they've also added more activities for kids and hot air balloon rides.

The event is open to the whole community, but helps highlight South Louisville.

"It's good to have a nice community event on this end of town," councilman Rick Blackwell said. "We've never competed with fireworks at the Waterfront. We want it to be an event here and also be able to go downtown too. We all want community. It is nice to have something close to you, only 10 or 15 minutes away."

The event starts at 3 p.m. Saturday and ends with the fireworks at 10 p.m.
