LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Where liquor equals cash, profit is only a perk of something much bigger.
"It's a perfect place for it. A perfect time for it," said Andrew Reynolds, manager of the Warehouse Bar.
Time for a cocktail served with a side of tolerance.
The New Albany bar has become the very first gay bar in Southern Indiana.
"That's crazy. That's like saying, this little river keeps the gays out. No, that's not the way it works," Reynolds said.
The bar opened its doors only days after hundreds of Indiana gay couples legally married.
The bar's opening gives lifetime Hoosier Larry Summers two things to celebrate this week. He said, "We went down to the courthouse to get an actual license. In a really conservative enclave of the country, you get some sideways looks. It's nice to have a place where you are accepted as we are."
The customers are accepted by the bar's 100 percent heterosexual management and wait staff.
Reynolds said,"If I can change views on all sides of it, it's a cause, and what's better to get behind than a cause."
Reynolds promises to be a permanent staple on State Street. "We're going to be here for a long time, and we're going to change something around here, one way or another, one way or another," he said.
