LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - TIPTON, Ind. (AP) -- A central Indiana sheriff's deputy has died after his patrol car crashed while he was on duty.

Indiana State Police say 31-year-old Tipton County Deputy Jacob Calvin of Kempton died when his car traveling at a high rate of speed went out of control Saturday night on a rural road and rolled several times, ejecting him from the vehicle. The 2 1/2-year veteran deputy died of his injuries at a hospital.

Investigators say it's not clear what caused Calvin to lose control of the car. Police say he wasn't wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Calvin was responding to an automobile crash at the time.

The crash occurred southwest of the city of Tipton, about 35 miles north of Indianapolis.
