New splash park opens in Jeffersontown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown's newest splash park opened Monday, and it's unlike any other park in Louisville.

The splash park has 26 water elements and is located at Skyview Park. It is the first of its kind to have a tank that collects the water from the park and rain, and then reuses it to water the surrounding sports fields.

It's sustainable and cost-effective -- but Mayor Bill Dieruf wanted to make clear what the primary focus of the water park is.

"It's about the kids," he said. "As you know, this is what we're about."

The creation of the splash park was a joint effort of the state, Louisville Metro and Jeffersontown local governments. It will be open every day from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
