Republican Candidate for Kentucky House of Representatives, District 42

The attitude Representative Reginald Meeks has of distrust for Republicans offering alternatives for improving life in Legislative District 42 in West Louisville is pretty telling.

On June 7, 2014 the Republican Party opened a satellite office, the Warley Center, in West Louisville. It inspired Representative Meeks to unjustifiably use the "race card." He is "Race baiting."

I understand Mr. Meeks has had free rein in District 42 for 14+ years and now is suddenly confronted with competition. It must be disconcerting.

But to raise the specter of racism by accusing Senator Rand Paul of using the language of exclusion -- "you people" -- on Facebook is uncalled for. It isn't true. The Jefferson County Republican Party welcomes and invites the participation and support of African Americans in the Republican Party. Disagreement is expected and in fact welcomed, but bigotry must be confronted.

Reginald Meeks needs to apologize to Senator Paul and all Kentuckians for lowering the quality of the debate.

It is reprehensible and a horrible shame that an elected Democrat Black leader, Reginald Meeks, who himself has suffered the wounds of bigotry against his complexion throughout his life, should be so willing to victimize other human beings the same way. I had hoped that by now we would, more often than not, be judging others by the "content of their character and not the color of their skin," and "doing unto others as we would have them do unto us."
